Description
PDO thread lift is a non-surgical, minimally invasive cosmetic procedure designed to lift and tighten sagging skin tissue. The procedure is named after the type of thread used: PDO or polydioxanone, a biodegradable, absorbable polymer that’s often used for medical sutures.
Here’s a general overview of how the procedure works:
- Consultation and Preparation: Prior to the procedure, the patient would consult with a practitioner to discuss treatment goals and the areas to be treated. Topical or local anesthesia may be applied to reduce discomfort.
- Thread Insertion: The practitioner inserts the PDO threads under the skin using a thin needle or cannula. The threads have tiny barbs or cones that grasp onto the skin from the under surface.
- Lifting and Tightening: Once the threads are in place, the practitioner gently pulls them to achieve the desired lift. The threads remain in place, holding the skin in this lifted position.
- Stimulating Collagen Production: Over time, the PDO threads will gradually dissolve, but they stimulate the production of collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid in the skin, which promotes a youthful and revitalized appearance.
- Recovery: The procedure typically requires little to no downtime, and patients can usually return to normal activities soon after treatment. Mild swelling, bruising, or soreness might be experienced after the procedure, but these are temporary.
Areas that can be treated with a PDO thread lift include the cheeks, lower face (jowls), eyebrows, neck, and even the body such as the abdomen and arms.
