Large Pores - Skin Conditions
Profile
Large pores are simply the opening of hair follicles on your skin. Each pore contains a sebaceous gland, which produces your skin’s oils. The size of your pores can be determined by genetic factors, skin type, age, and environmental factors.
Generally, pores are more noticeable on parts of the face, like the forehead and the nose, where the sebaceous glands are bigger. People with oily and combination skin types are more likely to have visible pores. This is because oils (sebum) and dead skin cells can collect in the hair follicle and form a pimple or a comedo, making the pore look larger.
As we age, we lose collagen, the skin’s main structural protein, which makes our pores appear bigger because the skin around each pore is not as firm and tight as it once was.
Large pores are not harmful, but they can be a cosmetic concern. Various treatments can help reduce the appearance of pores, including topical retinoids, chemical peels, microdermabrasion, and laser resurfacing. Regular cleaning and exfoliation can also keep pores unclogged, making them less noticeable.
