Allergan Kybella - Body Contouring
Description
Kybella is an injectable treatment approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for reducing moderate to severe fat below the chin, often referred to as a “double chin”. The active ingredient in Kybella is synthetic deoxycholic acid.
Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath the chin, Kybella destroys fat cells, resulting in a noticeable reduction in fullness under the chin. Once destroyed, these cells can no longer store or accumulate fat, so further treatment is not expected once you reach your desired aesthetic goal.
The treatment is usually given in a series of injections at each appointment, with appointments spaced about a month apart. The exact number of treatments varies depending on the individual patient’s needs, but many patients receive between 2 and 4 treatments.
As with any medical treatment, Kybella can have side effects. The most common side effects include swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness, and areas of hardness in the treatment area. More serious side effects, while rare, can occur and should be discussed with a healthcare provider.
