Rhinoplasty - Body Treatments
Description
Rhinoplasty, commonly known as a “nose job,” is a type of cosmetic surgery that changes the shape or function of the nose. It’s one of the most common types of plastic surgery.
Rhinoplasty can be performed for a variety of reasons, such as to correct breathing problems related to the nose or to correct disfigurement resulting from trauma or birth defects. It can also be used to enhance facial harmony and proportions of the nose for cosmetic reasons.
The surgery can modify several aspects of the nose, including the overall size, bridge, nostrils, and the angle between the nose and upper lip. Rhinoplasty can also correct structural problems with the nose that cause chronic congestion and breathing problems.
Rhinoplasty can be performed using a general or local anesthesia, depending on the exact procedure and the person’s preference. It is usually performed as an outpatient procedure but sometimes requires a 1-night stay in the hospital or surgery center.
Recovery time varies, but most people can return to work or normal activities within a week or two. However, complete healing, especially internal, can take several months.
As with any major surgery, rhinoplasty carries risks, such as bleeding, infection, or an adverse reaction to the anesthesia. Other potential risks specific to rhinoplasty include recurrent nosebleeds, difficulty breathing through the nose, numbness, scarring, and dissatisfaction with the results. It’s important to discuss these potential risks with the surgeon before the procedure.
